The famous Canal Run (Grachtenloop) returns renewed and with a different name: the Rock and Run. A run across the Jordaan quarter and the canal area, accompanied by music. Along the track you find spectacular live acts.

Macbeth, Shakespeare’s shortest and bloodiest tragedy, will premiere during the 2012 Holland Festival. Guest director Johan Simons sees the play as a genetic study of violence. Macbeth will be surtitled (subtitles, but then above the screen) in English on Friday June 15 at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.

Each year the winning images go on tour. In April, the exhibition is officially opened in Amsterdam, a logical choice, since the foundation has its roots here.

Every third weekend in June some 30 gardens of canal houses are open to the public: discover the beautiful oasis behind the facades.

The Holland Festival has been the trend-setting performing arts festival in the Netherlands for decades, annually presenting exceptional work at the international level with a mix of all the performance arts, a mix of big names and daring experiments.

The week is filled with culture and sport and explodes in the weekend into street and club parties and of course the famous Canal Parade on Saturday afternoon. Gay pride is one of the most busy weeks of the year in Amsterdam.

The Grachtenfestival (Canal Festival) highlights classical music at unique locations. The festival is closed with the Prinsengracht Concert with the audience on tons of small boats in the canal and thousands watching from the street and the windows.
