The week is filled with culture and sport and explodes in the weekend into street and club parties and of course the famous Canal Parade on Saturday afternoon. Gay pride is one of the most busy weeks of the year in Amsterdam.

Hartjesdagen comes from Hertendagen: Deer Days. It is believed that during the Middle Ages the common man was allowed to hunt for deer only one day a year. This was celebrated with a feast in several neighborhoods in Amsterdam.

The Grachtenfestival (Canal Festival) highlights classical music at unique locations. The festival is closed with the Prinsengracht Concert with the audience on tons of small boats in the canal and thousands watching from the street and the windows.
